"The nationwide event included opposition to the Vietnam War on the agenda, but this was thought to detract for the environmental message.
Pete Seeger was a keynote speaker and performer at the event held in Washington DC."

*"I'm still a Communist" -- Pete Seeger, 2004 _________________________________________________________
"[Pete] Seeger was antiwar during the period of the Nazi-Soviet Pact; pro-war after the Soviet Union was the ally of the United States; and anti-war during the years of the Cold War and Vietnam." --Ronald Radosh (former communist)
NOTE: Actually, the entire American Communist Party changed its mind within one day about the subject of war against the National Socialist Party led by Hitler when the military alliance between the Socialists and the Communists was suddenly broken after they had conquered Poland together.
For months, the Communist Party had manned picket lines with signs and chants, declaiming against any idea of the U.S. becoming embroiled in Britain's "imperialist" war against Nazi Germany.
Within 24 hours of Hitler's launch of Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of Russia, the same demonstrators were marching in front of the White House as usual, but their signs had changed 180 degrees, to damn and blacken anyone who shirked Humanity's Duty of entering the war immediately, to fight against the Germans.
It was the clearest demonstration to that date, that a good Communist was a brain-dead zombie who let Stalin do all his thinking for him. It was the best demonstration since Stalin's show trials, how creepy Communism really was as an intellectual proposition. The instantaneous reversal impressed Orwell, who wrote it into 1984 and Animal Farm.
