Screams from falling ( The Wilhelm Scream from the 1950s), the lonely cry of the Red-tailed hawk (Whenever we see a hawk or a bald eagle, the sound is always that same red-tailed hawk screeching sound that's been around since the 50's!), and many other sounds are repeated endlessly in movies a good article on movie sounds is here, 'Film Sound Cliches'.

How about "Castle Thunder".Originally recorded for "Frankenstein" in 1931, it has gone on to be featured in countless films and TV shows since, becoming the definitive movie thunderclap. Until around the late '80s, whenever you heard a thunderclap in a movie, it was probably Castle Thunder.
