Birth Certificate Shows: Obama’s Teenage Mom Was Not ‘Punished With a Baby’

(CNSNews.com) - For Americans who never doubted that President Barack Obama was qualified under the Constitution to serve as president because he was a “natural born” citizen of the United States, the Hawaiian birth certificate released by the White House today does document a fact of the president’s birth that has profound significance for one of the nation’s most important policy debates.
Barack Obama’s mother was only 18 years old when he was born.
On March 29, 2008, when Obama was running for president, he addressed the issue of sex education at a town hall meeting in Johnstown, Pa.  In this context, he said he did not want to see his own daughters “punished” by having a baby in their teens—suggesting they could be liberated from this perceived punishment through abortion.
“But it should also include--it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I've got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old,” said Obama. “I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals.

“But if they make a mistake,” said Obama, “I don't want them punished with a baby.”

The birth certificate released by the White House says that Barack Hussein Obama, II was born on Aug. 4, 1961 at Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father was Barack Hussein Obama, a 25-year-old student from Kenya. His mother was Stanley Ann Dunham Obama, an 18-year-old born in Wichita, Kan.

In the space designated for listing Obama’s mother’s “Type of Occupation Outside Home During Pregnancy,” the certificate lists “None.”
How did this 18-year-old girl come to give birth to a child in Hawaii in 1961? The most recent issue of the New York Times Magazine explains it.
“Ann Dunham, who jettisoned the name Stanley upon emerging from childhood, was just 17 years old in the fall of 1960 when she became pregnant with the child of a charismatic Kenyan named Barack Hussein Obama, a fellow student at the University of Hawaii who was more than six years her senior. She dropped out of school, married him and gave birth shortly before their union ended.”
In 1960, when the future President Obama was conceived by a teenager in Hawaii, abortion-on-demand was not legal in that state. A law that had been in place since the 1800s—before Hawaii had become a U.S. territory—was still in force. It was only a decade after Obama’s conception that Hawaii would become the first state in the nation to liberalize its abortion laws.
“On March 13, 1970,” the American Journal of Public Health reported in its March 1971 edition, “Hawaii changed its 100-year-old law on abortion and became the first state in the nation to allow abortion essentially at the request of the woman.”
Obama’s birth certificate and the New York Times Magazine profile of Obama’s mother demonstrate a point that the group CatholicVote.org made brilliantly in a television advertisement produced back in January 2009. The ad showed an ultrasound image of an unborn child and said: “This child’s future is a broken home, he will be abandoned by his father, his single mother will struggle to raise him, despite the hardships he will endure--this child will become the 1st African American president. Life—imagine the potential.”

The NFL and NBC rejected this ad for broadcast during the 2009 Super Bowl.
But now President Obama’s birth certificate is delivering the same message.
And it is posted for all of the world to see on Obama's White House website.
